In this episode, we delve into the impact of having a narcissist in your life, how to navigate co-parenting with a narcissist, and how to support your teen when they've developed a relationship with a narcissist.

Laura explains the two things that make a narcissist a narcissist:

  1. They use harmful tools to get their needs met
  2. They lack the ability to have self-awareness or empathy for the person in front of them

This naturally presents a challenge for people in any kind of relationship with narcissists. They feel emotionally attacked — they're sent into fight/flight mode — they're trying to survive and get their needs met.

This means they're more likely to people-please the narcissist, just to make things calm and peaceful again. Over time, they can end up in a whole quagmire of terrible feelings and confusion.

In this episode:

  • What to do to support your teenager when you know their other parent's narcissism is impacting them
  • A good approach to parenting if you're still married to and/or living with a narcissistic partner
  • The best responses to seeing your teen develop a relationship with a narcissist (and what not to do)
